Oaxaca will take you by surprise and steal your heart.  UNESCO claimed the city to be a cultural heritage site in 1987, and it’s probably not even on your radar. However, this unassuming colonial town spotted with colorful sun bleached buildings nestled in between mountains, packs a big punch.  The food is hands down the best in all of Mexico, and that’s a fact.  🙂  You won’t go hungry with the diverse selection, from moles to tlayudas, to the biggest and best mezcal producing region, to chapulines (grasshoppers) for the open minded.  The culture is also as rich as the food. The archeologic sites and the arts and crafts, most notably in the designs of the handwoven wool rugs, showcase the pre-hispanic Zapotec culture. There’s also something for the outdoorsy types. Adventures in the cloud forests, including an organized mushroom “trip”, are only 1.5-2.5 hours away. Another amazing selling factor is that the summer is cooler than most of the US, ranging from the 50’s to low 80’s. You simply can’t go wrong in choosing to visit Oaxaca for your next destination.  Open your stomach, your mind and your heart.
